Energy EFFICIENCY

Energy Future CoalitionEnergy Future: Our electric power network depends on 50-year old equipment. We need to upgrade the grid with new technology to improve national security and protect businesses and homes against power outages

"Zero Beverage Container Waste" Campaign -- recycling = recapturing wasted energy
Millions of consumers who recycle every day think that because they recycle their bottles and cans, everyone else is recycling too. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. Americans currently waste (landfill, incinerate, or litter) twice as many beverage containers as we recycle.

NATIONAL RENEWABLE ENERGY LABORATORY -- Renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies are key to creating a clean energy future for not only the nation, but the world. This Web site describes NREL's research in renewable energy technologies, and also provides information on energy efficiency and various applications of renewable energy.

WASTE TO WEALTH -- Solving problems in ways that reinforce economic and environmental security, the Institute for Local Self-Reliance assists community development organizations, small businesses and government agencies to increase productive employment, recover increasing amounts of valuable recycled materials and products, save environmental resources, and lower operating costs.

Conservation Law Foundation is New Since 1966, CLF has worked to protect New England's people, natural resources and communities. SCOTS INVENTOR CRACKS CENTURIES-OLD PUZZLE 1 Jan 2007, by Pat Hurst, Scotsman.com

IT IS a mechanical problem that has troubled scientists since Archimedes and the ancient Greeks, but now a Scottish electrician has come up with the answer. Ian Gilmartin, 60, has invented a mini water wheel capable of supplying enough electricity to power a house - for free. The contraption is designed to be used in small rivers or streams and can generate a good supply of electricity from as little as an eight-inch water fall. The water wheel produces one to two kilowatts of power and generates at least 24kw hours of sustainable green energy in a day - just under the average household's daily consumption of about 28kw hours. It will cost some £2,000 to fully install - and pay for itself inside two years. The Beck Mickle "low head" micro hydro generator could potentially provide electricity to more than 50,000 British homes and could be used industrially.
