Why
Energy Matters Energy is
fundamental to our domestic prosperity and national security. That’s why
we’re working together on promising new opportunities for U.S. energy
policy – to deal with the challenges of oil dependence, climate change,
and the developing world's lack of access to energy.
What is a Carbon Credit?
Today's New Currency: The Carbon Credit's true definition is the ESO or
Exchange Soil Offset or, more popularly the CO2e or Carbon Dioxide
equivalent but what is it equivalent to? How many Euros are there for each

NEWS BRIEF -- HALIFAX (CP), December 19, 2006 - Nova Scotia Power
is proceeding with its plan to provide renewable energy to thousands of
homes throughout the province. The electric utility announced plans today
to add 130 megawatts of renewable energy - enough to provide power to
40,000 homes - by 2009. The company will begin seeking proposals from
independent power producers early next year. Nova Scotia Power, owned by
Emera Inc. (TSX:EMA), launched the first phase of its renewable energy
plan in 2004. Spokeswoman Margaret Murphy says the utility has reached its
target of adding 60 megawatts to its electrical system - enough power to
reach 18,000 homes
Plan B 2.0, by Lester Brown,
Environmental activist and founder of the Worldwatch Institute Lester
Brown, discusses his latest book, Plan B 2.0: Rescuing a Planet
Under Stress and A Civilization in Trouble, in which he outlines a
rescue plan for a world facing oil and water shortages and the
disruptions caused by global climate change.

| "It is decision time.
Like earlier civilizations that got into environmental trouble, we can
decide to stay with business as usual and watch our global economy
decline and eventually collapse. Or we can shift to Plan B, building
an economy that will sustain economic progress. It is hard to find the
words to express the gravity of our situation and the momentous nature
of the decision we are about to make. How can we convey the urgency of
moving quickly? Will tomorrow be too late? One way or another, the
decision will be made by our generation. Of that there is little
doubt. But it will affect life on earth for all generations to come.”

The Geothermal Resources Council encourages worldwide development of
geothermal resources, promote research, exploration and development of
geothermal energy in ways compatible with the environment, serves as a
public forum for the world geothermal community, providing transfer of
objective and unbiased information on the nature of geothermal resources
and techniques of geothermal development and cooperates with national and
international academic institutions, industry and government agencies to
encourage economically and environmentally sound development and
utilization of geothermal resources.
Just another case of "Why Not US?"
Geothermal provides home-heating for 22,000 Germans.

What happens when world oil supplies decrease? The oil shocks of
1973 and 1979 caused inflation, unemployment, recession and high interest
rates. What we are about to face now is the world’s first forced energy
transition.

One Roof At A Time: A small
but quickly growing band of Americans have found out that you can make the
electric meter spin backward by installing photovoltaic (PV) systems on
their roofs -- systems that tie directly into the power grid. They buy
power from the local utility, just like always. But when the sun comes
out, they are the local utility, pulling electrons from the sun and
pushing the extra out to the grid. If you put in a solar system like this
in New Jersey, the state will cover as much as 70 percent of the cost.
